At a glance
This is a product-blend name, not one fixed three-ingredient recipe. Read the full packet before choosing a brewing method or assuming that a slimming, detox or caffeine-free claim follows from the name.
| Detail | What to know |
|---|---|
| Chinese name | 冬瓜荷叶茶 |
| Browsing group | Herbal infusion |
| Associated origin | Bozhou, Anhui is the inherited processing association, not one farm for every ingredient |
| Material form | A labelled multi-ingredient fruit-and-leaf blend |
Taste and appearance
The original describes crushed material in small infusion bags, yellow-green dry colour, a clear orange-yellow or yellow-green cup, a gentle lotus-like fresh aroma and a mild refreshing taste with some sweetness. Its introduction also mentions a rose-like aroma although its three-ingredient list does not name rose; aroma alone does not establish an ingredient. Original cup and spent-bag pictures remain contextual illustrations.
The cover is the original material illustration. These images are not TeaPlain tasting samples or proof of origin, grade, age, authenticity or image rights clearance.
Grade characteristics
This preserves the earlier Chinese edition’s sensory comparison. It is not a complete verified current standard table and does not grade your packet. Plant material, growing area, processing and grade are separate details. Decorative star rankings are omitted.
On a small screen, scroll the table sideways to compare the grades.
| Feature | Extra grade (old comparison) | Grade 1 (old comparison) |
|---|---|---|
| Shape | Crushed particles in small bags, relatively clean | Crushed particles in small bags, relatively clean |
| Dry colour | Yellow-green | Yellow-green |
| Liquor | Bright orange-yellow | Clear yellow-green |
| Aroma | Clean fresh fragrance and gentle lotus-like note | Rich fresh fragrance |
| Taste | Mild refreshing taste with sweet return | Fresh mellow refreshing taste |
| Spent material | Clean fragments without visible extraneous material | More mixed fragments, fairly clean |
These inherited comparisons are not a complete verified current product standard. Appearance and cup colour cannot authenticate plant identity, source, purity or food suitability.
Names and origin
The inherited example names winter melon, lotus leaf and cassia seed. A separately published brand launch describes a five-ingredient version also including red rose and barley, showing why the short name is insufficient to identify a blend. The launch’s slimming and certification claims are promotional and are not treated as clinical or regulatory verification. A bag may have a different mass and preparation from loose material. Bozhou is a processing association in the old source, not proof that every ingredient was grown there.
Everyday benefits
An unsweetened suitable food-grade blend may be enjoyed for flavour in place of a sweetened drink. There is no verified clinical result for this particular recipe. General detox and cleanse evidence does not establish reliable lasting weight loss, fat burning or toxin removal; it also cannot identify this packet’s ingredients.
Who may enjoy this tea
For readers who enjoy a mild labelled food-grade herbal blend after checking every ingredient and their own suitability. It is not a treatment for obesity, constipation, high blood pressure or swelling.
When to take care
Check all ingredients for allergies and medicine suitability; some versions include barley or other additions missing from the short name. Do not drink it to cause diarrhoea or replace prescribed care. If taking medicines or Iron supplements, follow their instructions and ask a pharmacist about the actual product rather than assume that all herbal drinks have the same interactions. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, allergies and suitability for children need the identified ingredients and preparation; this page gives no medicinal dose.
How to brew
Original prose: glass or porcelain cup
The inherited method uses a heat-safe glass or porcelain cup, 1:50, 90–100°C / 194–212°F water, refilling at about one-third remaining and roughly three infusions. It gives no first steeping time. For an identified food-grade product only, an arithmetic example is 3 g with 150 mL Actual water; that is not a dose validated for every herb. Follow the complete packet instructions first. Different plant species, plant parts and processing cannot share one universal recipe.
These inherited directions are awaiting hands-on testing. Refilling changes the concentration and is not a new measured batch. Let the drink cool enough to sip; do not use a photograph to identify unknown plants.
Read the original illustration separately
Illustration: bag in a heat-safe pot. Add one bag and 400 mL Actual water at 85°C / 185°F, wait a few minutes with no measured time, then pour and drink. Bag mass and vessel capacity are not given. The old introduction instead says one bag/200–400 mL/cold or boiling water/3–5 minutes; these are archived alternatives, not evidence that every product is intended for cold preparation. Follow the exact packet.
For ordinary teaware options, see brew without a gaiwan. Keep each complete method together instead of selecting temperature, dose and time from different preparations.
Adjust your cup
Identify the ingredients and follow the actual food product’s complete preparation instructions first. Once that is clear, adjust within those directions for taste. Do not increase the dose or boiling time of unknown plant material to make it suitable for drinking.
How to buy
Check every ingredient and plant part, bag mass, added tea or sweeteners, grain/allergen information, maker, dates and complete hot/cold directions. Do not assume all wintermelon/lotus blends have one recipe.

China price reference
Undated figures retained from the Chinese edition, in Chinese yuan (CNY). No original brand, batch, harvest or quotation date was recorded. These are not verified current retail quotes, a market average or manufacturer-suggested retail prices.
| Chinese-edition tier | CNY per 500 g (one jin) | Equivalent CNY per 100 g |
|---|---|---|
| Extra grade | 500 | 100 |
| Grade 1 | 300 | 60 |
Per 100 g is an arithmetic conversion, not a quoted packet. Do not infer a missing sensory or price tier. Compare actual growing area, style, harvest, roast, weight and channel. A currency conversion does not make a UK or US retail offer comparable to a China historical figure.
How to store
Original storage method
Keep individual bags dry; after taking a portion, reseal a suitable outer bag and store cool and dry. Alternatively use a clean dry food-safe canister or a box holding properly closed inner packs, away from light, odours and moisture at a suitable room temperature. An unlined paper box alone is not a moisture barrier. Follow the actual packet dates; this is dry-product storage, not a prepared-drink holding time.
Origin, processing and history
The inherited chart shows ingredient selection, low-temperature baking/multiple processing steps and blending. It also prints third-party testing and effect claims that are not verified by a report here. The graphic is withheld rather than reproduce those claims as production assurance; the listed operations alone do not certify a specific product.
Common questions
Will this tea reliably burn fat or detox my body?
No such result is established for the blend described here. A name or a laxative-like effect is not evidence of fat loss or toxin removal. Choose by the actual ingredients and flavour rather than replace treatment or meals with it.
Can I move one number from this recipe into a different vessel?
Keep leaf form, measured dose and actual water, temperature, timing and separation together. Nominal capacity or a fill fraction is not a measured ratio.

Editorial notes and updates
Updated 16 October 2026. Valid original descriptions, sensory comparisons, prose and image methods, storage handling, China price figures and usable pictures are retained with their scope.
